Fantasy (SOS-FANTASY)

Rational Magic is a campaign  of investigation, intrigue, and espionage set in a gritty “fantasy-punk” world; a world that evolved from a traditional sword and sorcery setting. Players are Operatives who work either to maintain the status quo or rebel against the forces of magical modernity.

Rational Magic is for 5th edition, as well as the Lore Role-Playing Game (RPG) System, which was purpose-built for this campaign.

The Camlann Chronicles is a Welsh and Brythonic themed campaign and scenario book for both 5th edition and the Lore 100 system.  The Camlann Chronicles weaves together Arthurian legends and fantasy RPG tropes. Fledgling kingdoms, including the likes of Gwynedd, Rheged and Dyfed, fight amongst themselves for control of the mythic British Isle. The nobility of these fledgling kingdoms share the common dream of a united realm; though they are unwilling to bend their own knee.

It is the beginning of the second generation of the Golden Age of Piracy. The friendly harbors of the Caribbean no longer unconditionally welcome the Brethren of the Sea. Pirates must now seek their own fortune with no master to offer blessings. This is a perilous time for pirates. But the ocean is big. There is treasure to be taken and fortunes to be made.

Between the Devil & the Deep (BD&D) is a brutal and supernatural pirate TRPG  set in the late 17th century Caribbean, made with the GUMSHOE system and the home-built SHAMUS system. Kickstarter announcement coming soon.

SOS SYSTEMS

The Lore Role-Playing Game System was originally built for this Rational Magic setting. The Lore 100 System uses the unique elements of the Lore System and marries it to a traditional d100 system.  These systems should give you a fast and meaningful role playing experience which also ties a character’s story and development into the game world. It was developed by looking at some of the best (in this author’s opinion anyway) features of such games as FATE, GUMSHOE, Barbarians of Lemuria, and Microlite20.  Additionally, Lore 100 was inspired by Mongoose Legend d100 system and BRP.

The SHAMUS, originally built for the BD&D campaing, combines the basic mechanics of GUMSHOE with a few extra subsystems in order to provide exciting gameplay, as well as help the Game Master (“GM”) deliver a vivid roleplaying experience. These features include:

  • A system of Approaches which describe how characters prefer to do things. Approaches provide “mechanical” differentiation between characters.
  • Meaningful NPC stat-blocks which establish mechanical differentiation between NPCs without need for point-spend heuristics.
  • Lore Sheet system which ties character backgrounds to the game world and to the GM’s campaign arc.
