Rational Magic Lore Sheets and Story Hooks #2

Rational Magic is a game of investigation, intrigue, and espionage set in a gritty “dystopian fantasy” world; a world that evolved from a traditional sword and sorcery setting. Rational Magic uses the Lore Role-Playing Game (RPG) System, purpose-built for this game.

This blog post series shows-off Lore Sheets (link to SRD); a device used to describe character background, history, proficiency, and relationships.  Lore Sheets can be created by players, the GM, and by “Content Creators” (ie. me and other designers who adopt the Lore RPG System).  They provide players with world settings  as well as serve as convenient story-hooks.

□□ Tragedy of the Graceful Zepher. (TLP:_ ) In order to fly greater distances, some flying ships are equipped with emergency “rest beds”, which extract Life Mana by sacrificing prisoners or less-useful crew members as a last resort.

The Tragedy of the Graceful Zepher is an infamous story. An early model flying ship was blown off course by freak winds. To avoid crashing, it touched down in the middle of a Dead-Zone, a nighmarish land filled with demons unleashed during the last war. To escape the crew created “rest beds” and proceeded to mana-sacrifice half the passengers. Reportedly, the orc passengers were the first to be sacrificed.

My (orc) parents were on the Graceful Zepher, and they didn’t make it. I need to know why this happened. I need to kill the surviving crew who are responsible.

I know several survivors who also seek justice. They will assist me on this quest.

□□ Bring my God home (TLP:_) In the Heroic Era, hidden, dark cults were thought of as manifestations of evil, to be hunted and purged less they summon demonic hordes that scourge the lands. In truth, the hidden cults, daemon worshipers and supporters of crazed gods were never “evil” (if such a thing objectively exists). They see themselves as messengers of greater, divine powers… that happen to have different morality codes than what is taught in Athdanravist Sunday-School. Some of these cultists saw themselves as freedom fighters who oppose the power and attention of “mainstream” gods.

I pay homage to (god name) _____________, who is the god of _____________. Worshipers of my lord are hunted by the MDF. My goal is to organize and recruit the worshipers. One day, our lord will come. Our lord will wipe clean the heathens and bring about a new empire. My lord’s servants will be rewarded.
